What replacing a dryer vent hose actually involves

First the dryer gets pulled out. That alone tells us a lot. On slab homes with shallow laundry closets, the old transition hose is usually crushed flat against the wall. We measure the gap between the dryer's exhaust collar and the wall boss, then cut rigid metal or semi-rigid to that length. Foil flex gets removed, not reused. Clamps go on both collars. Then the dryer slides back only as far as the duct allows, often further out than the homeowner expects.

The hose is rarely the whole story. We check the wall termination before closing up. Salt-corroded caps on the east side stick open. Dampers fail, and wasps and birds move into the hood. Garage-wall and carport terminations collect lint felt matted with pine pollen and oak catkins.

In upstairs laundry closets venting vertically to a roof cap, foil sagging between joists creates a low point. Lint and humid air pool there and turn into a wet mat. A new transition hose does nothing for that. The vertical run needs brushing and vacuuming first.

Test after: comforters and beach towels should not need a second cycle. If the thermal fuse already blew, that is appliance work, not duct work.
